Christmastide in Virginia

Sunday, December 22, 2019, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

From December 20 to 31, “Christmastide in Virginia” at Jamestown Settlement and the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown offers a glimpse of 17th- and 18th-century holiday traditions through interpretive programs and demonstrations, as well as period musical entertainment at both museums. At Jamestown Settlement, watch as wattle-and-daub buildings are decorated with greenery, learn about English Christmas customs and enjoy festive fun with daily appearances from the Lord of Misrule, “grand captain of all mischief.” At the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown, learn about winter camp life for a Continental Army soldier and hear accounts of Christmas during the war, compare 18th-century holiday traditions with those of modern times and try your hand at a variety of holiday activities around the Revolution-era farm, including hands-on periodic candle-dipping activities.

Open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily (closed on Christmas Day and New Year's Day), “Christmastide in Virginia” programming is included with museum admission. Located on Route 31 just southwest of Williamsburg, VA, admission to Jamestown Settlement is $17.50 for adults, $8.25 for ages 6 through 12 and free for children under 6.
