Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto and Symphony No. 5 - POSTPONED

Tuesday, June 1, 2021, 8:00 PM

In alignment with statewide restrictions on public gatherings and the continued threat of COVID-19, Beethoven's Emperor Concerto and Symphony No. 5, scheduled for January 9, 2021, will be postponed to June 2021. “This decision was not made lightly, but the safety of our patrons, artists, and staff remains paramount,” says Robert W. Cross, Perry Artistic Director, Virginia Arts Festival. “While we are all looking forward to the Beethoven Celebration with live music from the Virginia Symphony Orchestra musicians conducted by JoAnn Falletta and Olga Kern on piano, we must make the difficult decision in the best interest of all. Thank you for your patience and understanding,” says Karen Philion, President and CEO, Virginia Symphony Orchestra.

We will advise you of the new dates as soon as possible. No action is necessary from you at this time. Existing tickets may be used for the rescheduled date. Patrons should visit their original point of purchase for refund instructions. For additional questions, please email the SevenVenues box office at [email protected].

Beethoven's Emperor Concerto and Symphony No. 5
Virginia Symphony Orchestra
JoAnn Falletta, Conductor
Olga Kern, piano

"One of the finest conductors of her generation." - The New York Times

"Falletta conducted with a controlled frenzy worthy of Bernstein. Falletta has won conducting awards named for Toscanini, Walter and Stokowski. That seems appropriate as her podium draws on the legacy of all three--Toscanini's tight control over ensemble, Walter's affectionate balancing of inner voices, and Stokowski's gutsy showmanship." - The Washington Post

The Virginia Arts Festival's celebration of Beethoven's 250th Birthday is also a grand farewell to a beloved member of the region's music community--an emotional event you won't want to miss. Marking her final season as Music Director of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra, JoAnn Falletta will lead the orchestra in one of classical music's most recognized works, Beethoven's monumental Fifth Symphony.
In her debut performance with the VSO, Van Cliburn Gold Medalist Olga Kern brings her vivid stage presence, brilliant musicianship, and extraordinary technique to a performance of Beethoven's breathtaking Emperor Concerto.
